The secret sauce of this whole thing isn’t what you’d think.
The holy grail isn’t “programming.” Anyone who says it is may have found the thing that works for them but it certainly doesn’t mean it will work for you.
The secret sauce is community. If you want to be here and enjoy being here, I can promise you the things you want to see will be more possible, more reachable, than if you sign up for a beat down and have to go it alone.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a method to the madness and a reason we do what we do. The rep schemes, the weights, the duration of work and rest etc. However, all of that is moot if you decide you want to not come because its too early, or you are too tired, or you just don’t feel like it.
It also becomes stale and boring if you aren’t challenged, aren’t seeing results, and don’t LOVE being here.
So the next time you see someone new in class, remember what it was like to be new at the gym. I hope you feel like it is your spot to release the bad vibes of life, get a lift, a sweat, and a laugh. Let them get the same experience.
Share a rack with them, lift with them even if it is lighter or you have to explain some stuff to them. If you get a workout buddy out of it, or they want to keep with this whole CrossFit thing, it won’t only benefit them, it will benefit you. The more people that are in class, the more energy.
Power in numbers, maybe that little piece that can’t be explained. The encouragement that gets you one more rep or finish a bit faster than you could alone.
I’ve watched so many good friendships develop over the years simply based on the camaraderie that comes from doing something hard together.
So remember, you aren’t alone in this. And as always, don’t overthink it. Come in, be social and have fun doing something hard. The results will take care of themselves.
